How to Apply for a Bhutan Visa
Every foreign visitor except Indian nationals needs a visa, processed exclusively through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator.
Every foreign visitor to Bhutan, except Indian nationals, must obtain a visa. The Department of Immigration in Thimphu is the sole issuing authority — no foreign embassies abroad process Bhutan visas directly.
When you book a tour with World Tour Plan, we handle the entire visa process on your behalf. You simply provide a scanned copy of your passport at least 10 days before travel. Once approved, we email you the visa digitally — you print it and present it at airport check-in and immigration.
Requirements: book a tour package; purchase confirmed air tickets with Drukair or Bhutan Airlines; hold a passport with at least six months' validity at the point of arrival; submit a colour scan of your passport's information page; and provide travel insurance documentation in English.
You should expect to receive your visa 1 to 3 days before departure. It arrives as a digital document via email — no physical passport submission is required. If you've recently renewed your passport, contact us to update your immigration records. If your old visa and new passport carry different numbers, bring both documents to the immigration checkpoint. Drukair may also request an indemnity form at check-in. Visa extensions can be processed in Thimphu if needed.
