Bhutan Trekking Season

Late September to mid-November is the best trekking window, with late March to mid-May a close second.

The optimal periods for trekking in Bhutan are late September to mid-November — widely recognized as the best trekking season — and late March to mid-May, the next best window for high-altitude treks.

Spring (March–May) brings stunning alpine flowers, particularly rhododendrons in deep reds and oranges, though nights remain cold at higher elevations.

Autumn (September–November) offers superior daytime temperatures, typically in the high 60s°F (20s°C), with nights falling below 40°F (5°C). The rainy season ends, skies clear, and foliage turns yellow.

Summer (mid-June to mid-August) is best for alpine flowers in wet meadows, though trails below 2,500m get muddy and leeches are common at lower altitudes.

Different treks suit different windows: popular routes like the Jomolhari Trek and Druk Path Trek excel in March–May and September–November, while the demanding Snowman Trek is limited to July–September.
