About the Festival
Trongsa Tshechu is a five-day annual celebration held in the northern courtyard of Trongsa Choekhor Rabtentse Dzong, positioned on a ridge above the Mangdechhu and Truenpangchu gorges in Nubi gewog, Trongsa district.
Cultural Significance
The opening day focuses on rehearsal and preparation of masked dances accompanied by traditional instruments including dungchen (long trumpets) and jaling (oboes), with mask dances performed by both monks and lay individuals. Subsequent days feature dance performances designed to entertain attendees, dispel negative influences, and invoke blessings for participants and the surrounding area.
