About the Festival
The Tour of the Dragon is a 255km race widely regarded as one of the most difficult one-day mountain bike races in the world. The route begins in Bumthang and finishes in Thimphu town square, crossing four major mountain passes: Kiki La (2,870m), Yotong La (3,434m), Pele La (3,430m), and Dochu La (3,150m).
Cultural Significance
Held annually on the first Saturday of September, the race's timing coincides with the end of monsoon season and the arrival of autumn — cool, crisp air following summer heat. It reflects Bhutan's growing embrace of biking tourism while showcasing its mountainous terrain and pristine environment.
