About the Festival
Mongar Tshechu is an annual three-day celebration in Mongar, eastern Bhutan — a region known as the 'Bastion of the Zhongarps', inhabited primarily by Tshanglas and Kurtoeps peoples, and renowned for exceptional wood-carving craftsmanship. Mongar's Dzong was established in 1953 under the initiative of the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
Cultural Significance
The festival features traditional dances and local customs unique to the region, attracting attendees from neighboring districts including Trashigang and Lhuentse, making it a significant regional gathering.
