About the Festival
Jambay Lhakhang Drup is an enchanting Bhutanese festival featuring distinctive nighttime ceremonies held during the full moon at Jambay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country. The festival showcases traditional dances and spiritual rituals unique to this celebration.
Its signature moment is the fire offering, in which participants pass through a fire arch at night — locals believe the ritual will burn away all obstacles. The festival is equally known for the Naked Dance, a primordial performance initiated by Terton Dorji Lingpa, believed to help viewers overcome the obstacle of anxiety and fear. Other performances include the Dance of Four Groups of Garudas, the Stick Dance, the drum dance of Dorji Lingpa, the Dance of the Lord of Death, and the Dance of Dramitse.
