About the Festival
The Black-Necked Crane Festival celebrates the arrival of black-necked cranes to the Phobjikha Valley each year. Established in 1998 by the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), it promotes community-based sustainable tourism in the valley and raises awareness among visitors and locals about crane conservation.
The celebration features traditional performances including classical dances, dramas focused on cranes, and masked dances — with a crane dance performed by local schoolchildren as one of the most popular highlights.
